British weekly, the Economist, wrote last November that “The ability of developing countries to connect firms, suppliers and consumers to global supply chains efficiently is essential to their competitiveness, says the World Bank in a new study on trade logistics.” While globalisation process seemingly pronounced as a sort of magical tool of development of our age, the importance of the interconnectivity of transport and logistics networks appears to be the key-point in this affair.
Taking this issue for granted, we, as a group of researchers from different countries, have come together in September 2005 in Istanbul to set in a movement of international cooperation in research in the fields of transportation and logistics. After having succeeded to organize a second workshop to put our goals into action last November, we decided to set up a regional - international research organization in a critically sensitive and strategically important geography of the world: Eastern Eurasia and Eastern Mediterranean. We plan to announce the foundation of it in an international conference, “Prospects for Research in Transport and Logistics on a Regional – Global Perspective” to be held in Istanbul at Dogus University on February 12-14, 2009.
The Conference will concentrate on issues of transport and logistics, with particular reference to the fields of education and research. Our main aim is to write down a permanent address to act as a meeting point of researchers from around the world to contribute to the common good of all people without any ideological or political prejudice and with a special attention to the problems faced in the geography. Then: we invite everybody from all walks of life attached to transport and logistics in one way or the other.
Papers dealing with the various facets of transportation and logistics will be grouped under the following main topic areas:
- Regional Issues in Logistics and Transportation
